Setting your laptop screen for what appears to be a normal brightness would be a start. Since you work with normally dark photos you do not want to increase your monitor brightness to see them. You want to lighten the photo to the point you can see it on your normal brightness monitor. This is going to be tough to get right on a laptop because the viewing angle can change the apparent brightness.

If just setting the brightness for "normal" doesn't get the job done for you then you will need a calibration setup like ColorMunki. Sooner or later you will probably take this route anyway. From what I see you are into some creative photography and I think what you are seeing on your computer screen is the biggest thing standing between you and some really great photos.


No, I never claimed to be outstanding in the field of photography. I said I was out standing in the field taking photos.
