OK, so this is a new one for me. I got an email today from a lady who wants me to take her photos. She calls them her wedding photos, BUT she and her husband are already married. I didn't get all the details, but apparently they didn't get wedding portraits when they got married. Anyway, as she's asking me about prices she asks if I include the dress. ...I was a little stunned at first and a bit confused since I assumed she had the dress, but I guess not. She asked if I could provide the wedding dress for the shoot. I told her I would look into it.

Does any one know where I could possible rent a dress for this? This is a new one on me. I know I can do a quick google search, but I wanted to ask here and hopefully get some advice from someone who's possibly done this before who can maybe recommend a place.

As far as I know most wedding dresses are custom fit--ie., you can't really just rent a size 'x' and expect that to work. I find this request highly strange.

I get enquiries like this from couples from some Asian countries when coming to Australia wanting a pre/post wedding shoot. My answer is they have to source them themselves.

Figure out what outlet rents dresses and refer those to her. If not, tell her to 'buy' a wedding dress and simply return it after the shoot is done.

It's simpler than it seems.

In my area there are quite a few places that will rent you a wedding dress. I first noticed this at the place that rents the men tuxedos. Have you tried searching the internet or was this your first stop?

My suggestion also - my wife is a thrift store junkie - I've hardly ever been to a thrift store with her that there's always a few wedding dresses hanging around.

Yep. I live in Laos where many wedding photography studios supply dresses. Being a Buddhist country, their Buddhist ceremony is conducted traditional Lao attire, the 'Western' wedding dress is only for photography. Thailand is much the same.

I know it's a strange request. And like I said, it's a first for me. I don't want to tell her to "pack sand" but after thinking about it a bit more women are picky about the dress some times. I may just point her towards a dress rental site.

ssim, this was my first stop just to see if anyone had used a dress rental service before. I know I could easily google search it and I'm sure I would find a place. I've heard of places like that even around here in my local area as a way to save a bit of money on weddings once the economy started to nose dive but I've never looked into them. I guess now may be a good time.

Anything can be done for a certain price.
Customize this service request, add it to your charges and come out as a winner in being such a value-add hero. :)

Exactly! "Sure I can provide a dress...it'll cost you $XXX.99 extra though." :D Kind of like adding bacon to a Whopper at Burger King!

Yeah, but they won't give you extra unless they charge for it.
