Just read a way to get photoshop to start about plus 80% faster.
I read it on a publication from Wiley Publishing, Inc. Author is Shangara Sigh and the title is Hacking Photoshop CS2.

It is realy easy. Just going to the Plug-in folder and putting an ~ before the file name which you which to stop from loading.
He advises on a couple few which I never use and must be realy heavy:
-Digimarc;
-Filmstrip;
-PCX;
-Pixar;
-Photo CD; and
-Targa.

I would advise trying this and getting the publication might also be a good idea. I have just started to read it and it seems a very useful and simple book.

Hope you'll find this helpful.

Cheers,
Jaime

I just tried and i dont feel any difference. I didnt exactly time it but i think 80% might be a bit optimistic?
Thanks for sharing though :)

Chris,
It depends on where you have the Adobe directory installed mine is at
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS2\Plug-Ins
for the digimarc
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS2\Plug-Ins\File Formats
for the remaining

Jaime

Well, I didn't time it either but it sure felt like 80% to me.
Might have to do with the fact that I also disabled Neatimage as a plug-in.

My rough tests say it takes CS2 5 seconds to start as normal, and 4.5 seconds with this done. This is with CS2 cached in memory. I turned the plugins back on.

5 sec? I wish that was my case. Then I would also leave the plug-ins turned on.
My PC takes 20sec now that the plu-ins are disabled.

Sorry if it doesn't work for you or anyone else. My intention was just to share what was a helpful revelation for me.:D

Huh. Mine normally stalls for a good few seconds while loading plug-ins. Now it starts right up. Thanks for the tip.

It does for me now. To be honest, mine used to take at least 15 seconds. But, in the grand scheme of things, not really that big of a deal either.

I read some place that turing off the font preview will make it load faster as well. Since I am work now, I dont have the link.
