I just rented this flash and tested it on my t2i. Back then when i tried my friend's flash, it used to have this flash icon in the 550D menu. Now this particular flash i rented, doesnt have any flash icon but the camera body detects it.

More over, i also cannot access the flash control in my t2i, it says incompatible flash, is there anything i'm doing wrong?

Not sure if this will help but have you updated the firmware on your camera?

I know this is a pain in the ass, but have you tried a system reset to factory settings? I'm not the most technological person with cameras.

After a google search they should be compatible. Might your hotshoe be damaged? Might the flash be damaged? Do you know anyone else that can let you test out a flash to see if it's the flash or the camera?

Since it's a rental it might actually be the flash.

You can always go to a store that sells the flash and see if they would let you test one out in store of course.

What you are describing is a classic communication error stemming from the flash not being seated properly.

How do i solve it? Well, it isnt my flash and i have to return it after a day, now i can only use manual mode which is a pain in the arse. :(

Well you guys are right, its a hotshoe issue, adjusted the flash head, and ettl came back, but still am unable to access the custom functions on my 550d, any ideas why? I'm heading down to a service centre to get this resolved.

Remove it, reseat it, jiggle it a bit. Clean the contacts.

Well, if i decided to send it back to Canon, which is just a 20min drive away, would they charge for tightening the hotshoe?
