I'm looking at the one without the clamp. At Adorama and B&H they show it with a threaded disk. Does anyone know if this comes with a 3/8" stud to fit a RRS B2-Pro clamp or do I have buy that stud separately? Thanks guys!

The Z1 without the clamp has two versions. One has a 1/4"-20 stud on top, the other a 3/8"-16. Just make sure you order the right one.

Those disks can be removed via a small 11mm socket, assuming they don't use a strong threadlocker. The one I bought recently did not have any threadlocker, so that disk can be removed and replaced by a clamp of choice. This thread has more information on the threadlocker: https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1339086

Under the disk is a stem with an M6-threaded hole and an anti-twist boss. You can attach a compatible QR clamp of choice to that stem. I assume that is your goal?

I just looked up the B2-pro and I don't think that has the cutouts for the boss used by the Z1 stem.

You can either screw the clamp directly onto the 3/8" stud version, or you'll need another clamp, like this one: http://www.reallyrightstuff.com/s.nl/it.A/id.3608/.f (external link)

I want to make sure I got this right...

I order this...

and this...

No need for a 3/8" stud because the RRS B2-Por II comes with a flat headscrew?

That's the right ballhead, but you'll have to ask RRS to be sure. It sounds right but I'd check with them.

That is correct. I ordered the same products a few months ago, and it worked perfectly (just be sure the screw included with the RRS clamp is an M6 screw, and not the 1/4x20 screw).

All the above is correct, you have the right Z1 and screw knob clamp from RRS. When the Z1 arrives, take it to Home Depot or wherever you buy the 11mm socket because you'll need a socket with a thin wall; there isn't much room between the edges of the bolt on the screw and the base plate.

RRS also make a self-adjusting lever clamp that now fits all types of plates - no adjustment necessary and they work just fine. I just put one on my Z1.

Thanks Peter! Ordered the RRS clamp. Now I need to decide if I want to trek to B&H or have it shipped :D Wish Adorama wasn't out of it

It's likely that quite a few have sold recently since it got out that Arca are now using a very powerful threadlocker to secure their clamps. If you buy from B&H, I think the head with the ball locking knob on the left has a 1/4" screw, and the 3/8" screw version has the locking knob on the right. I would check their web site before ordering, and when it arrives try to take the round base off as soon as you get it. You may be lucky and get old stock.

Thanks again Peter! I picked up the Z1 yesterday. To our surprise B&H was not crazy crowded like usual!:D Was in and out in a few minutes. I was able to unscrew the threaded nut and remove the plate with no problems. I used a #11 socket. It was a snug fit but I was able to get the socket into the recess and unscrew the nut. All I need now is the RRS B2-Pro-II. Hope it arrives before the weekend.

BTW this ballhead is HUGE compared to my M10!

Great! The ball has a diameter of 54mm and the Markins Q20 is a nearer model in terms of size to the Z1. I think you'll enjoy using it a lot, it's a very solid head.
