Just a curiosity poll.
Raise your right hand if you've pre-ordered this lens.
Also tell your expectations.

[RIGHT hand up]

Oh, expectations... Well, I've seen a few very good full size samples, especially from 5DIII bodies. 600mm f/6.3 looks very good to me from a full frame body. There are also less than impressive samples floating out there, quite a few actually. But I always judge a lens by what it can achieve and not by what it can't. (It's easy to take a bad photo even with a 600 f/4 II).

The big question is how will it perfrom compared to my Sigma 120-300 2.8 + 2x TC. That combo is pretty good for me but it has its disadvantages too, such as weight and size. I guess I'll wait and see what I find when I get it :)

I pre-ordered it.

I am hoping to be bitterly disappointed. I hope the retailer refuses to take it back.

Pre-ordered.

My expectations is to be on par with my 100-400, for the asking price I'm not getting crazy about thinking its going to have stellar sharpenss as a prime.

(left hand up)

Hasn't been ordered yet

I am eagerly awaiting reviews and sample pictures from people on POTN as well as probably some Youtube reviews and The Digital Picture. If reviews are a go and I can sell some things (17-40L and 300L are listed already) then I might be looking at getting one.

Pre-Ordered.

Hoping it's close to my 400 DO w/1.4TC combo at f/8. I'll be testing them both at 560mm once I receive my Tamron.

Pre-ordered.

I expect it to be, when stopped down to f/8 at 600mm, on par with my 100-400 wide open at 400mm.

Left hand up

Not pre-ordered. Looks like it is only going to be available here Jan 31st so I'll have a bit of time for you all to hash it out before I can get one. I'd order from Adorama or something but I kinda want the Canuck warranty.

Looking forward to it either way (sold my 300 4.0)

Not preordered, but seriously thinking about it. Will see how it is once reviews are out.

Sitting on the sideline and watching intently. Lenses have come and gone but the 100-400L continues to occupy an honored spot on my lens shelf. We'll see if this latest challenger will dethrone the long-term champion and send it into retirement, or if it will be a pretender.

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

Right hand up, preordered.

I love my 100-400L but it lacks reach sometimes, my 500L f4 I is great especially with the 1.4 TC glued on it but the weight and bulk plus the fear of theft keeps it home a lot.

This new Tamron has reach and portability. This lens has shown it is capable of some good shots and the proof will be in the pudding after I shoot with it. Time will tell.

Roger

I've ordered. I'm hoping it is as good or better as the 400 f/5.6 and 1.4x TC at 600mm :)

Am waiting for you guys to get yours and see what you post using this lens. Had a BigmOS I wasn't really thrilled about and don't want to get another lens that is soft at 500-600mm.
