I used to be state tax exampt from Amazon but as of the first of the year no more.
So pre-ordered from Adorama. We're headed to Reelfoot lake in a couple of weeks for my first
real stab at eagles.Would be my luck the 150-600 arrives the day before we go=a photographer
who barely knows the ins-outs + an unkown lens=perfect combination :) But at least at its weight
it doesn't have to be tied to a gimbal.

six months after the first POTNer gets the lens you'll start getting the first credible reviews. I remember the euphoria a few years back when sigma released a couple of new long zooms that some said were "100-400L" slayers. never happened, of course.

I'm keeping my 100-400L and will only sell it when the 100-400L II is released.

Left hand up. It doesn't arrive here until Feb and if the first few user reviews are positive my right hand will be up.

All I'm hoping for is something better than my 70-300L with 1.4TC.

I agree with this. The amount of "wishful thinking" about this lens at some of these threads is absurd.

I think some of this "hype" about the lens has to do with the available options for a 600mm lens. The options are slim, especially if you want it to autofocus all available points on a non 1D/5D3 body. So- while it might not be better than the 100-400L at 400mm, it's going to look significantly better than the 100-400L at 600mm if the 100-400L has a non-reporting 1.4TC on it with unreliable autofocus. I had a 400 5.6L prime that I did the "tape trick" on to get 560mm with my 7D. On a slow moving target, worked fine, but panning something like a racecar, the results were less reliable.

The other consideration is that many will be happy using this lens outdoors stopped down to f/8. So while a 100-400L might look better wide open, if you're stopping down your shots anyways, maybe the Tamron will be able to hang with it at f/8.

So I don't think this is "wishful thinking" to bring these above considerations into the determination of the lens's performance. While there are some things I'm guessing it'll fall short on (competing with the 100-400L wide open at similar focal lengths), I think there are other things it'll win on by default, simply because there are so few other products like it.

Not yet - a money thing . Probably in March [Should have Xmas paid off by then]

I am using a 7 D and if A F works - great - I prefer 5.6 to F 8 , so starting at 6.3 is not a problem .

I Q wise , I did not see a difference between my 135-400 and the 100-400 except for the slow IS [compared to the 17-55 and 70-200 - . the IS is about the same as my 28-135 on the 100-400]

I want more reach -

Once I read several reputable positive reviews about it's IQ at 600mm, I'll order.

I have more exposures with my 100-400 than any other lens, and I love it, but IF objective reviews are positive, I will probably spring for this lens. If it is sharp at f/8.0 I would love to have the additional 200mm. No hurry, though. I can wait until more systematic reviews of the gear are available.

Just got my contract signing bonus and will be getting my performance bonus soon.... it is so hard not to preorder the lens right now. Good thing I'm going to pay my Expedition off first. Only thing keeping me from ordering, that and I need to sell my 17-40, 300mm, and Honda Ruckus. Once two of those sell I'm ordering the Tammy.
