Something similar to the Nikon Df. How much should it go for? I would be in for one around 2.5k

No, most certainly not. I am happy with 1-series and failing that 5D gripped bodies and would not want anything smaller or more cumbersome. I want a functional and ergonomic body and canon should spend budge on usability upgrades rather chasing fashion

To be honest I don't like the look of the AE-1. The old Nikon body looks much nicer.

Hmmmm....I used an AE-1 when I first got into photography. I would probably like your concept for the sentimental value of it. Heck, for $2500....it would be hard for me to turn that down. Wait...
(yells from office) what Honey?....Oh....of course not....no, not me,hun.......no...not the kid's college money....yes, I have enough equipment :roll eyes:

Ok, this camera is not for me. Nope.

Looking for light in all the right places.

I wouldn't want anything much like a DF, if you want your camera to be a fashion accessory there are other manufacturers doing that for you right now(not saying I don't think about buying a x100s or a xpro1 like twice a week, cause I do, they is sexy).

What I would love on the other hand is something more like the Leica M without the price tag. Something built for manual focusing. Something with a dial for shutter speed, a dial for ISO, a manual aperture ring, a focus ring, and that's all. I will sometimes go out and shoot film just so that I have to go slow and take my time making sure I get it all right, and I love that.

Would I ever want to use this as my primary camera for work? Hell no, but it would be a fun toy.

Just get yourself a X100 and you'll be 90% of the way there for much less than what Canon would want for it.

I would be in for a 1DX (in its current shape) for $2500US!

No need to appease the hipsters that use cameras as cute accessories by launching a retro body that is harder to use than the current standard.

If Canon launches a retro DSLR/EVIL camera I imagine it will be based on the same 18ish MP APS-C sensor we have seen in several iterations for what seems to be forever. It is probably next to free to produce by now (just look at the entry level DSLR prices). Or, perhaps go crazy and stick the 6D sensor in there. But 1DX autofocus and functionality? Nahh.

I have no doubt that I will eventually get something along those lines, but right now there are other things that I need more so it will remain a pipe dream for a while.

The AE-1 was an enormously popular camera in its day. I think Canon sold over a million of them although I personally did own one, making a decision to stay with Konica, which I first purchased in 1968. But there is something to be said for those older cameras in terms of "feel". Simply put they had "heft" which translates to weight. They felt good in your hands, maybe even use of the word "stable" comes to mind. I happen to have a Kodak Retina Iii "large C" the last of the great folders. I was cleaning it the other day and felt it may actually weigh more than my 60D and still works fine even though it was made in1958.

Yes, I would buy a retro AE-1, especially if it had the heft and feel of the original and had ECF in it.

Yes, I think I would buy one

I remember 30 years ago lusting after an AE-1 Program, while shooting a Sears Ricoh KR-30SP. Then I would have bent over backwards for an AE-1P. Now, not so much.

Wouldn't the A1 be a better target?

As much as Iliked the old gear I am a practical person first and unless it functioned better than the EOS system cameras I would rather spend most of $ 2500 on a 70-200 LII IS or more than $2500 on a 5d3 body.

I would love a vintage look with a compact body with a HUGE sensor. It would probably geared towards someone who wants more compactness with high quality images. Yes, similar to the leica M version. Would be interesting to see if they would come out with something like that.

Give me a 1DX in an F-1 body with ECF. Yes, I think that I would love that.

I've seen them go for around $500 on the B&S boards.
