finally - a pileated

I saw a pileated woodpecker working a tree in the yard and while it's not unusual to see a pileated it is unusual for him to stay once I step outside. So armed with a heavy coat and camera I managed to take several photos before he flew away. WOOHOO, a new bird for me and a pileated at that. I've been wanting a photo of one for years.

Good for you, Dan; sometimes they can be quite approachable and, though they have a large area, once they're around, it seems like they return. So keep your eyes peeled!

I had two in and out of the yard all summer, never were they sitting out in the sun. great job
