Seems time for a thread for the EFS 18-55 STM which I believe is a very good inexpensive lens. For these pictures I chose this lens to take family day pictures. My daughter, her family and I got together for a running event in South Hero Vermont.

I ran the Green Mountain Half Marathon and my daughter the Green Mountain Marathon. Since I only had to run half as far, I had time to photograph part of daughter's race.

Here she is approaching the finish.

About to cross the finish line in 3:10 minutes.

Here she is receiving her award as the first woman marathon finisher.

It was a good day for both of us as I was the first 70 plus runner in the half finishing in 1 hr 50 minutes. For the last shot I used the 70d built in flash as I didn't bring my EX 430.

Squam Lake Area with the EFS 18-55 STM

Hi

On this day my woman friend and I made plans to meet at Squam Lakes Association then head on together to another location for an mellow hike.

I was a bit early so I stopped at a nearby pond and took this picture.

IMAGE: http://jack-dorsey.smugmug.com/Other/Squam-18-55/i-X5c4VVV/0/XL/IMG_5999-XL.jpg

Here is a significant crop of the dock area using the same source image.

IMAGE: http://jack-dorsey.smugmug.com/Other/Squam-18-55/i-zKtQnTC/0/XL/IMG_5999-2-XL.jpg

A sign to show with just a little cropping.

While I was waiting in the parking lot for my friend, a fox came walking down the driveway heading for the road. Since I didn't have time for changing my lens I used my 18-55 as a wild life lens. This screen capture of lightroom gives you and idea of how much I cropped the fox pictures.

IMAGE: http://jack-dorsey.smugmug.com/Other/Squam-18-55/i-k9hShMH/0/XL/Capture-XL.jpg

This fox was very bold.

IMAGE: http://jack-dorsey.smugmug.com/Other/Squam-18-55/i-gQ8wfk8/0/XL/IMG_6007-XL.jpg

Suddenly the fox sprung into action.

IMAGE: http://jack-dorsey.smugmug.com/Other/Squam-18-55/i-8ZjzXqN/0/XL/IMG_6011-XL.jpg

Couldn't crop close enough to get good detail on the prize.

Soon my friend showed up and we moved for our hike. This is a picture from a ledge near the summit.

How does it compare to older version. Looking for cheaper lens to compliment 30mm 1.4 and for videos (STM versions). Will i be able to take advantage of STM with t3i video shooting.

Thanks Jack, I ordered this lens to try with my NOS 30D I recently purchased. I hope it is as sharp as yours.

I think there are more but they haven't found this thread. There are loads of posts on the thread for the older non STM lens. This one will pick up as the lens gets more widespread sales.

I did not appreciate 18-55mm stm lens when I got as a kit lens with my sl1. I changed my mind. It's very comfortable to have that lens for walk around shoots. And even 18mm wide angle is not bad, plus some "macro".

me as well - I think it ships in the T4i/T5i kits, and the SL1 & 70D kits so the lack of shots on here is odd...

I've seen amazing shots with the 70D on that thread...
