Disappointing game for Tennessee last night, as a late 3-pointer from the Aggies won the game after the Vols blew away a nice lead. It kind of sucks when you work your butt off setting up remotes, only for the photos to mean basically nothing, but that's part of it.

Anyway, on to the pics. Overhead remote setup was a Nikon D4 and 300/4, at ISO5000, 1/800th, f/4. Floor remote setup was a Nikon D800 and 24-120/4 at similar settings as above. Both fired with pocketwizard plusIII's. I shot next to the goal with a D4 and 70-200/2.8VRII.

It was actually a very bad game for an overhead remote. We had only one fast break, no dunks, and were forced to mostly outside jumpers, so we didn't rumble around the basket like we usually do.

C&C appreciated as always. Thanks for looking.

How do you set the focus when you do overhead or on the ground shots?

Turn off autofocus on the lens and use live view to grab focus manually. On overheads, I will zoom in live view on the rim, and grab focus just a touch behind the rim. I usually try to do this during warm-ups so I can test the focus.

Same with the floor. Start with focus a touch behind the basket and test focus during warm-ups. Stop down as much as you can.

I usually just trigger by hand, but this time I triggered from the main camera. I'd like to get a small trigger button to place on the camera somewhere so i'm not constantly firing the remotes. Going through hundreds of remote shots with nothing in them makes uploading and culling a pain.

Shot ambient only (only local newspaper has strobes in there).

You have some stellar shots here.

Not sure I get your comment: only for the photos to mean basically nothing, but that's part of it." Is it because A&M won or because there was not as much inside action as you hoped?

Tony
I use Canon gear...have several bodies and lenses and am quite pleased with them.

Thanks.

And what I meant was, due to the loss, the likelihood of the shots getting used outside of the photo gallery for media relations, advertising, marketing, recruiting, etc purposes is slim. But again, it's part of covering one team, and no big deal... they're just photos. I can't imagine putting in the days of work preparing and practicing, only to lose in such a fashion.

Don't sell yourself so short here. Your shots are outstanding and can be utilized in so many different facets.

Sports is all about winning and losing. Teams will always fall into both those categories. Everyone wants to win, but you have to prepare for the other side of the coin. Its all a part of why the athletes do what they do.

No one will realize from your captures of the action, (#6 BTW is Outstanding) who won and who lost
