I'm in love with the screen of the MBP but i cannot justify my purchase for an MBP, firstly, the specs arent that good compared to my good ole desktop, any ideas for a monitor?

What's your budget? I would recommend Eizo or NEC.

Oh dear, those are out of my budget, i might as well get a MBP with that price or a new lens. How about a 23inch dell IPS monitor?

I don't know about the Dell, but there are a lot here who use them and seem happy with them. I'm sure if you searched for a particular Dell monitor, or just Dell monitor, there would be quite a few threads that came up.

I'm happy with my Dell IPS monitor.

People seem to really like this ASUS 24" monitor: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B008DWH00K/ (external link)

Dell had a 30% off sale on refurbished monitors at their outlet store. I'm not sure if it's still going on, but I posted the coupon code in the Market Watch section. I ordered a 27" Ultrasharp to replace my old 24" Ultrasharp. I think after taxes it was only $450.

Haven't seen a screen yet that compares to my retina MBP. That being said, I have an i5 and 8GB of RAM and it's more than enough - I've got 4x that in a Win 7 machine and would still prefer my macbook pro with Mavericks.

Which begs the question, "which screens have you seen?"

Ha! Right now I have an Acer 23" IPS LED monitor hooked up to my MBP. It's decent, but not anywhere near my laptop; I had a 21.5" iMac and liked it's screen. Have several new 24" Asus monitors at work, but they are junk. The only screen I like better is the 15" rMBP and the 27" iMac.

Spend some time with some quality NEC or Eizo monitors, you'll find yourself whipping out the checkbook. There's a reason why their top monitors are about as much as your MBP. ;)
