Without much to show for it sadly!

I've been meaning to try a walk with the camera up the Gorge in the village where I live for a while, so this afternoon in the doom and gloom I hiked up the side with Camera, two lenses and tripod! It was strange walking without the dogs, but two mad Springer Spaniels and cliff edges do not mix!

I was going to try some long exposures - when I'd left the house there was some nice contracting clouds zipping along the sky, but by the time I'd reached the top the weather was just overcast and light was dead flat.

I pretty much wrote off the whole trip - I took a couple of shots of the resident cliff climbing goats, but probably will bin them. After leaving a lens on the side of the hill after a swap and having to hike back down to find it I was cold and ready to go home, but thought I'd at least scope out this location for a future trip in the evening to get some light trails.

Managed to get one or two shots, but the light really was crap. This one is heavily processed to try and get something usable - but the trip has given me enough encouragement to go back at some point in the right conditions!

Perhaps of more interest is the set up to get the shot - this shows just how precarious it was to get this angle!

Will definitely be going back!

Its just a shame that the iphone shot of the set up is the best image I've taken all weekend... :(

The gorge certainly deserves a second hike. The road up the canyon is a dream for someone with a sports car. The guy driving the car that made the taillight streaks wasn't having any fun. He was riding his brakes all the way through the turn. It would have been more fun to brake before the turn and accelerate through it.

That's the first thing I noticed too. He's (or she) is doing it wrong.

Feel free to use any photo's that I post for any purpose that I don't find offensive. I'd be honored to find my pics used on that world wide web thingy....

Dude. This picture gives me shivers; I can see the weight of the camera+lens causing the whole set-up to go tumbling down the cliff.

Did you have some kind of weight on the back leg?

LOL - it was much more stable than it looks, but there was a weight on the back leg - me hanging on to all for dear life!

You're braver than me. I would have had a strap on mine and tie it off to some big rock or something.

I got shaky on a step ladder this weekend.:o

Cool shots. Amazed to see cars apparently passing each other in those curves. (Or maybe I'm confusing headlights and taillights.)

I disagree with this. You have a wonderful and original shot here. I love the textures and the line of the road.

Cheers, Helen

The tripod legs were spread to the fullest amount and the centre of gravity was well inside the spread, so the only way it was going anywhere was if I'd knocked it over - in fact, well within the bounds of reality with me! :)

LOL - I thought that when I first opened the image, but definitely one down, one up!

Thanks Helenica, I'm looking forward to getting back up and having another go as time allows...

Cheers all,

Rob
