I recently purchased a d300, with about 16k actuations. took some photos over the weekend, and this happened on one image, but no other one. Everything prior and after were perfectly normal. just curious if this is something common. or if its a possible sensor issue.

It's possibly a sensor / camera error. But 99% of the time an image like this pops up in the forum the culprit in the end is a bad cable or memory card reader. If you would like to confirm it's one of those, just transfer the photo (if it's still on the card) via a different means.

Thanks for the replies
its a new Transcend CF card. The image appears the same on both in camera lcd as well as on PC.
could be a cheap card problem?

^Ah--I see. That suggests it's NOT the method of transfer, obviously. Possibilities include: 1)sensor 2)bent pin in camera 3)bad card 4) ?

If this is a new issue and you haven't been recently bullying the card slot and pins at the bottom, then it might just be the card. I have no idea, though.

Try capturing an image with a different card.

If the problem's still there, it's the camera. Sent it to Canon to be fixed.

If the problem goes away, it's the card. Buy a new one.

Let's hope it's the card. Much cheaper.

Good advice Roger, except it's a Nikon. :roll eyes: Canon Service will just send it back.

Oh, well, if it's a Nikon, there's always the circular file....

What have the Nikonians said about the problem?

Since it showed up on the camera LCD then it's most likely the card.

Since it only showed up on the one photo it will be likely hard to troubleshoot, unless you can get it to repeat itself, and then to do it with a new card!

Cards are cheap! If you even suspect a card may be bad, replace it!

And I was serious about asking the Nikonians. If that particular model or sensor has a problem, they might well know about it. And if so, Nikon may fix it free if it's within a designated time period.

Try another card, the thing is you should always format the card, even if it's brand new
