For some reason I liked this building so I snapped a shot. When editing I tried a few difference effects. Which to do you prefer?

i like the second one.. though i think it might be cooler with some more dramatic PP, like, a lot of it.

hey, well heres my take on it, im going for a more dramatic effect too.

cant remember exactly what i did, i normally just mess about til i get something that i like!... think it was levels, then i duplicated it and on one copy i converted it to lab coler and messed about with one of the channels.. dragged edit back to original, blend mode to colour, changed opacity, gaussian blurred it then merged those 2 layers. then i might have messed with levels again, then i converted to b&w using channel mixer. more red, less blue. levels again? EDIT: and i put a little gradient in top right...

I like the first two, can't really choose between them (they have their merits.) I think the second colour shot is just a little bit too dark (I know it's supposed to be dark).

The black and whites don't really do it for me, but I'm sure the photo would work as a black and white shot with a different tonality.

I think the subject (the building) is underexposed in all of them, which works to the detriment of the photo

I would be happy to trade that little bit of blank sky at the top for an equal amount of foundation for the building. There is so little of the base and surrounding water that it is severely cramped in that respect.

I much prefer a natural division of foreground/background that approximates the 1/3 - 2/3 division - otherwise it just does not seem to balance.

However, the building itself is very interesting, and it's easy to see why you were taken by it. Next time you get a chance use a wider angle shot!

Of the three shots presented, I like the B&W best. Stu's edit has really helped in the contrast and brought the whole range of tones to the shot.
