I have the house wired for ethernet as well as a wi-fi network. I keep my photos on a Netgear NAS Network Storage Device with 8 TB of storage space. This allows me to access and edit from my desktop or laptop. While I have a pretty good system for my original RAW files and my edits today, that wasn't always the case. The result is that I've cluttered up the NAS over time with several duplicate images (some jpeg, come tiff, some psd and even some duplicate RAW files).

I downloaded Duplicate Cleaner Free, but it will only access files on my computer hard drive and also really isn't specifically designed for images, but rather for duplicate files in general.

Does anyone have a recommendation of a software that is reliable for searching both my computer, external drives and also my Netgear network storage device? Free is nice, but not important compared to cleaning up my files.

I haven't used Duplicate Cleaner Free but I wonder if the issue is that it only understands drive letters and not UNC paths. In this case, try mapping shares on the NAS to drive letters and see if the program will accept that.

Thanks for the idea. I had considered this but not tried it. It seems to work. I'm still concerned that this is a 'light weight' software but it is free. I have it churning now (lots of images). I will report back the results.

Nothing inherently wrong with multiple copies of the same file...it avoids angst and gnashing of teeth when your harddrive eventually fails and you cannot get at the copy of the file on that harddrive! The trick is not to have two or three files having the same name and different modification dates.

Most of them for whatever reason do not allow you to search for tiffs, jpegs yes. At least when I was looking at them

EOS 6d, 7dMKII, Tokina 11-16, Tokina 16-28, Sigma 70-200mm F/2.8, Sigma 17-50 F/2.8, Canon 24-70mm F/2.8L, Canon 70-200 F/2.8L, Mixed Speedlites and other stuff.

When it ceases to be fun, it will be time to walk away

After all my searching for a program really geared toward finding photo duplicates, I found a good solution if you use Lightroom. There is a 3rd party LR Plug-In called Teekesselchen that worked really well ... and it was free. Here's a link for those interested: http://www.bungenstock.de/teekesselchen/ (external link)
