I've been using a student backpack and it works fine but it is time for something that is a little bigger and prettier/more professional.

This is what I am thinking of buying to replace the backpack. Anyone here own it?

When I was using flashguns only I strapped the brollies and the tripod together to my Tenba Shootout Large backpack; and the two lightstands were strapped together with bungee cord and I slung them over my shoulder (the Manfrotto stand has rings to which a shoulder strap can be hooked).

The case that came with the monolights kit has been both a blessing and a bit of a curse: it's sturdy, wheeled, and all stands save the Manfrotto fit inside; but it's too heavy to carry up and down the stairs.

The carry bag for the Savage background system (external link) has proved useful to carry lightstands and brollies.

It does a good job for the heavy gear days.

I used to use ski bags mixed with lighting bags but finally purchased a pelican case that holds all the strobes while still using ski bags and light bags for stands and all the misc stuff.

I actually prefer to not carry any of it anymore as it was a learning phase. Now I try to accomplish the same thing with a Quantum bare flash and various minimal lighting modifiers.

My Pelican case is huge, then I have two more for cameras and lenses. This has become my favorite means of transport since they have wheels and a handle as opposed to straps. Sometimes you just have to muscle it up stairs and stuff.

Or a car.

If you can't afford the car the sell the camera equipment and now you don't have anything to transport but yourself. Can even be a scooter since you won't need trunk space.

Yeah, then I have no means of making a living either.

You make a good point... I guess if the camera is not making enough to pay for the car then business is not good enough to worry about cases to carry equipment.

Businesses pick up slowly. I did invoice in AD 2013 over four times what I did in AD 2012, so there is growth. Overnight, skyrocketing success is rare. Cases are still needed, though: with precarious finances you can't afford to damage equipment. ;)

Kevin, here are a couple of ideas.

I've read of people using a golf cart, the kind you pull along behind you.

Another idea is to locate a military surplus store and check out a large soft-sided foot locker. Its like a large duffle bag but with a set of wheels at one end so you can pick it up and roll it behind you.

Maybe these can be checked out.

Not a bad idea. Methinks such foot locker wouldn't scream 'expensive photo equipment inside!' and would be a safe as well as practical solution.

The downside with a military footlocker is you have a hard time to get all organized in it. I prefer to use a Kata Rolling Organizer Case.
It looks like a big travelling bag, full of clothes.
