Which composition do you folks prefer? Kind of stuck in paralysis by analysis. Thanks for any feedback.

I like the first one better; it has more of a feel of 'being there'. The second one feels like it's more remote, like viewing the scene from somewhere else.

The tree and hill line lead the eye to the peak with the clouds over it better; and the peak and clouds are just more prominent.

They're both great. I prefer the 2nd one, the tree doesn't crowd the foreground as much and provides some depth

A also like the first one most. What I suspect would have been even better, was to take a step or two to the right so that the tree in the foreground is placed on the intersection of thirds.

Cheers, Helen

Thanks everyone!

Helenica, I tried that, and it didn't quite work due to the curve of the mountains.

Like the first. Makes the mountains more imposing.

Neither really. The foreground is lacking good interest and it takes up most of the photo.

I actually like the foreground and composition. It has a subdued quality that contrasts the drama of the clouds and mountains. I like the colors, too.

Number 2 for me. It's "softer" ...
