What is the best way to obtain EXIF data on web images? I downloaded a simple program but it often says the data unavailable.

Either the photographer will do it before they upload or the web host will just strip it anyway, free ones are more likely to do that. Although it is only a few bytes per image when you are dealing with millions of images that soon mounts up.

With Flickr click on the bottom selection or more on the page where the photo is hosted. To get it from Photobucket, you need to get it from the Photobucket page itself, not from the image. The trick to get to that page when all you have is the URL of the image is to add .html to the end of the image's URL so that it ends like this: .jpg.html Philip
