Hi,

I am in the market for a newer camera, I own the Rebel xt and t3i and would like to move out of the rebel series. I've been looking at the 60D and a used 7D. I'm just looking for advice on a god non-rebel series body to purchase under a grand.

Canon Rebel XT, t3i. EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II, EF 50mm f/1.8 II, EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS II, EF 100mm f/2.8.

You have narrowed it down to the two I would suggest. The better ergonomics and controls of the XXD line (and 7D) will serve you well. The 7D is a step up in the focusing system if you do a lot of sports or birds in flight, but the 60D has a few bells as whistles as well. Either way you cant go wrong.

What for?

What features are you looking for?

What are you expecting from a new camera?

Going from a T3i to a 7D, well, not a huge jump in anything frankly.

But if you were to look for a new crop sensor, the 7D refurb is a good value.

Very best,

If you don't need all the bells and whistles of the 7d then I suggest you get the 60d instead. That way you can still use your SD cards and the money you save can go to buying better glass or accessories or just savings.

Adorama and B & H have Canon USA refurb 7d's for about $939. I watched prices carefully and got a 7d refurb from Adorama Thanksgiving Day for $799.

I have a T3i that I am very happy with except I wanted a better viewfinder and AF for BIF and I don't do video or live view so the 7d refurb was perfect.

Well honestly the biggest reason is I'm tired of the sound and feel of the rebel series. I'm afraid of taking these anywhere to extreme with fear of breaking the plastic body. I had to buy a battery grip for the t3i just so I don't get the feeling I will easily drop it. Another reason is when I bought the t3i is was the newest one out, went to Arizona for 2 weeks and came back to the t4i and 2 more since then.

I already have a bunch of compact flash cards from the xt, so that won't matter much to me. I also want something that can shoot faster, since the t3i only has 3.7 fps.

THe 60D has the same plastic body, but its more rugged than you might think.

I would recommend getting the 60D. That will be a good camera for you to get and is the next step up in the Canon lineup that isnt another rebel series.

If you shoot sports or wildlife, the autofocus of the 7d will be a big jump from the Rebel. Otherwise, the 60d should be fine. I've never heard of problems from the plastic bodies (the chassis of the Rebels are stainless steel) - I believe it's a similar material to what Glocks are made from.

I don't find the polycarbonate bodies to be a problem whatsoever. In fact, I'm some instances they are better than metal. They don't dent etc. I would say they are pretty tough.

You really should handle a 7d then. Ergonomics, controls and build quality set it apart from the 70d & 60d. Along with AF options and viewfinder size.

That's a pretty ridiculous statement.

Depends what you're shooting.....if you don't need high fps the debate is wide open. I rarely if ever shoot high frame rate. I learned the old way of trying to capture a moment in time with a click.

I've had the 7D since it came out and I have loved every minute with it. That is until I went on vacation this past summer with my 5DIII and 24-70 mk I. The 7D is an awesome camera. The only thing I would add to the 7D is wifi.
