Depends what you're shooting.....if you don't need high fps the debate is wide open. I rarely if ever shoot high frame rate. I learned the old way of trying to capture a moment in time with a click.

Sure and I don't disagree, but go read the comment again.

Ok thanks for all the info. After thinking about this I am beginning to wonder if I should buy a better lens instead of a new camera body. Got several I have been looking at, 70-200mm f/4L, 300mm f/4L IS, and the 400mm f/5.6L. I have a 55-250mm f4-5.6 and it has worked well for me, from photographing an Eastern Diamondback to barely getting a Bald Eagle on a sandbar. I'm just not sure if the 70-200 would be a good upgrade to the 55-250 or not, or if I should get the 300 or 400 first. I've never owned or shot with an L lens but I've always heard they are the top of the line Canon lenses.

Canon Rebel XT, t3i. EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II, EF 50mm f/1.8 II, EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS II, EF 100mm f/2.8.

I have a 7D and my brother has a Rebel. Both cameras can produce amazing, high-quality photos. However, I understand how the OP feels with regard to ergonomics of the Rebels.

The only reason I would recommend the 60D over 7D is if size/weight are and issue or you might need an articulating screen. Otherwise, I would recommend the 7D.

It will be an incremental upgrade, but you have this range pretty much covered with the 55-250.

Why not the EF 100-400?

Otherwise my vote goes to the 400 :D (there is no substitute for cubic inches or linear mm ;))

The 100-400 is a little above my budget right now unless I can find a good deal. I kinda had the same thought on the 70-200 vs the 55-250. Having the 400 with my cameras 1.6 crop factor sounds really good to me, since I am beginning to really get into bird photography. Having that sort of range would work well.
