Maybe just a copilot? Or driver!!! I love adventure, but having a three year has put the early morning, late night photo adventures on hold, but I'm itching to start back at it...

Awesome shots as usual, Mike.

Given that you go on trips off a normal trail (or, in this case into snow where the trail isn't necessarily obvious -- particularly at night), do you have much emergency gear with you? I always struggle with balancing my photography equipment vs. hiking gear in case I get stranded and am looking for ways to get better at that -- short of learning the hard way!

Its an interesting question since I usually hike alone. The off times I like to be at the waterfall, on the peak etc don't appeal to my other hiking friends. On this trip, I had a headlamp, snowshoes I didn't use and my usual InReach 2-way satellite communicator with GPS. I can pair it with my phone to use GPS maps. It also allows texting and sos signaling. Back home my gf can follow my progress on a web based map with updates every 10 minutes.

This particular trip was just a bit off of a major ski area so I felt ok about it. I also ran into two other late hikers and we headed back to the parking lot together.

Thanks for the reply.

When I'm in Seattle next maybe I'll give you a holler and we can do a trip together. Typically most of my friends in the area also have little interest in the hours I keep when I'm there!
