Poor Image Quality

Im trying to find the correct way of describing this, but after owning 4 dslrs of two main makes, and using different pp software from windows photo gallery to Lr 4.4 via gimp, picasa and fastStaone, and using the correct balanced manual adjustments or even auto pp adjustments, i just cant gat past my pictures looking just not real and to like a painting.
I cant post an eg at the moment as i am still getting my head around Lr, and to be honest i have never downsized a pic through it for web on here, i used to do this with other pp sites i have now deleted.
I am not sure if its simply a case of my equipment(older camera-noisey sensor/budget lens) or just my luck of software sofar.
Even pictures shown on here by so-called inferior cameras(although more modern) show a mutch better, more realistic - less painting like appearence.

I just dont know where im going wrong???

Another way of describing it is - a family member looked at on eof my pics and asked if it was a real object or of a toy as it diddnt look very lifelike and real, and ive also been asked if another pic was a shot of a photo through glass and not the real thing.

Like i said i have no jpegs at mo all raw files and most un processed in Lr, but i simply dont know how to adjust them as a jpeg in thier to 150 max for here, like i said i used to use another pp editter that i was used to, im not used to using Lr for 100% of all my work>

You should provide a raw file so that we can figure our What the problem is. Can you use a site like dropbox to provide a typical raw file?

I have Lr4.4 and use it well i think (scratches head hoping so) my gear is working well - it should be brand new lens and decent functioning body both used to their limits, all photos i keep - that i am on about are in focus and have full DR, and exposure is ok, just as i said i notice they are not what i would call - transparent and life like, preaty poor going for potentialy nearing £2000 by its original value, worth of equipment.
Frankly i hav eseen better out of a £100 bridge camera(not cropp abilty) but pure IQ.

Im just not hot with sorting stuff like that, kind of got used to my comfort zone with my old pp site and posting pics that way, all my pics i have put on here over the years came that way, im just very very dissapointed sofar ok im using nikon gear at mo and dont get me wrong i love my camera and lens, but im just not seeing decent enough picture files - no matter what i do or did do, you can check some of my previous posts and see what i meen.

Surely with my gear being a nikon eqv up to the same standard as a 40D and 70-300 IS USM, i should be seeing a decent level of IQ?

Go to dropbox.com and sign up for a basic account. It is free as far as I know. Put your raw files there and post the links here. Easier than falling off a log. You are dissatisfied with your results but you haven't given us too much to go on.

Why not just shoot in JPEG if you're not enjoying software editing?

As for the IQ, it's definitely something to do with your editing or a fault with your camera/lens (more likely something is going wrong with your editing if it's happening with multiple bodies). I still look at RAW files from my 20D in awe, that old little 8mp sensor (same one as your old 30D) produced some truly great looking files.

Without posting an example of either jpg or raw there's nothing we can do to help you.

I have been on here for a few yaers and have made some good friends and feel privalged at recieving the kind of guidance i have, i have tried and tried and taken onboard advice given to me over the years, i have experimented and done many things to improve my photography and processing, but despite going to extremes with fundamentals and practacises, i am yet to be told that a pic i have taken and posted on here is of a decent standard, i know this is not everything but it sure makes you feel you are doing something right....

Sony is the answer here. Sony's new high dynamic range sensors and growing line of sharp lenses should bring you over the top, where Canon and Nikon have let you down.
