I took this over the summer but learned a few new things and gave it a reprocessing. I still need to add core data to that blown core and I plan to take some more 900 second exposures to capture more Ha.

Heya,

Great image.

Care to share how you processed it?

Very best,

thanks, I did some very selective curve adjustments, used gradient exterminator, white calc, hasta la vista green, and used a couple of techniques out of this tutorial video by scott rosen http://www.astronomersdoitinthedark.com/dslr_llrgb_tutorial.php (external link)

Very Nice, I have not tried this before, what was the process for capture?

You pulled out a lot more faint stuff and sharpened things up as well. Nice job. It looks kind of grainy. Is this from the down convert to JPEG or is it from sharpening? I've had to resort to reprocessing old data with the weather and now the Moon in the way. It seems I've always learned something new and can improve on my earlier attempts. I've even gone back to some of my 1st images... It's amazing what was there, but I didn't know how to process it back then.

I ran your image through Noise Ninja. It helped smooth things out a bit. Since you don't have "Image Editing OK" I won't post it without your permission.

Hmm I need to fix that, I would be totally fine with you posting up the image moe! This is going to sound dumb but I actually pulled all of the data out of that jpeg image that I shared on my flikr page! I did not intend to really do anything serious, I got bored the other night and started tweaking the jpeg after watching some youtube videos and I was like woa! I can't believe how much data is there. So I imagine if I actually go find the original image on my other computer I could pull out even more data.

I think it got grainy from sharpening, I did that hastily, highpass instead of good ole alpha mask sharpening, I cant remember how to get alpha mask sharpening for the life of me anymore.

Yea it is insane what you can do with this data if you really know how to stretch it! I saw your andromeda, it is looking really good Im curious to see how some of your other stuff looks when you redo it.

I got a new mount for imaging so Im really looking forwards to adding data to this orion shot. I shot this back when the temps were in the 70-80 degree range and humidity was really high like 88% so seeing was bad, BUT, I was shooting from a blue/green zone so I can get some good data out there. Now that the temps are hitting 20-30's and humidity is gone I think I am going to come back with some good nebulosity detail.

Clear skies!

I think I was at 5 x 900 seconds, 6 x 500 seconds, 5 x 300 seconds, and 11 x 120 seconds

No flats, no darks, no bias. I took them but when I added them it messed everything up. I still have not mastered those things yet. Oh I also used dithering with BYEOS.

Some times I have to leave the bias out because something goes wrong. Not sure what or why. You should try to use the Darks and the try Darks and Flats. They make the biggest anti-noise difference. By using Noise Ninja I lost some of your detail. But I guess that the battle we fight Noise vs Detail.

Wes have you looked at the videos I have on my SmugMug site. They are wonderful for little tasks that make a huge difference in the image. They are NOT my videos but I can't find them anywhere online anymore so I put them up for anyone to use.

Wow noise ninja made a huge difference, I definitely want to go back and do darks and flats, but I have no idea what the sensor temp was when I shot it. Flats however can be done! We shall see, I have some other projects to do first but when I get a chance I may be able to track down more information about this stack on my desktop computer. thanks for posting the videos, the star repair one is gold!

Yeah, it amazing what those short videos can do for an image. The sensor temp should be in your EXIF data if you still have any of the original Lights left. I always keep 1 just in case I need to check the data. I've shot Flats 2 years after taking an image. It's not the best way, but it can make a huge difference.
