Hey all,
i am wanting to upgrade to a more advanced camera.I am a student studying HNC photography and have realized that my Canon 450d has many disadvantages and i want to upgrade to a more advanced camera. The 450d only has a ISO 1600 and the quality is very poor.I am using it for studio and location portraiture, and is very poor to shoot in low light situations.
Any advice will be really appreciated. Weblinks are welcome
Thanks
James

What lens do you currently own ? Maybe a wider aperture lens may be the answer to your low light shooting. Just changing bodies may not get you what you want if you're shooting with high F stops.

EDIT
Just re read your post, why don't you invest in lighting ? ? ?

The best camera for low light performance is the 6D.
A faster lens may help, assuming you WANT to shoot you photos a 1.4 or 1.8
I agree that a new camera or a lens lens will not help you nearly as much as a 430EXII or a 580EXII flash.

I had an XSi. Poor quality at ISO 1600 is YOUR PERCEPTION of the issue, and perhaps a self-comment your post-processing abilities. It says nothing about the camera. There is no significant difference between the IQ obtainable from the XSi at 1600 and what I currently get out of my 60D at 1600. The XSi may only go to 1600, but its performance there is quite good. The camera is not the problem here.

I agree with your statement about the IQ being very very similar both at iso 1600.
Perhaps they require a wider range of ISO available to them in various shooting conditions, and the find their camera at iso 1600 max requiring a slower shutter speed than what they are able to capture handheld without camera shake. Without a sample picture from the OP it is hard to see that their PP skills are lacking.

I agree with the others, it's probably you and not the camera. With correct exposure the XSi /450D is actually pretty decent at ISO 1600 but not as good as full frame models like the 6D or 5D3. That said, upgrading does offer some better features - fps, AF, video, etc.

No,when the camera is on iso 1600 there is a lot of digital noise. The camera was set at a 50/sec and at a low f/stop to put up with the low light situations .I have had the camera for a few years now and was wanting to upgrade to a more pro quality camera like the 650d or the 7d,but everyone is saying that there iso quality is the same.
The 450d is brilliant for studio work and i will keep it as it is a joy to work with ,but i do want an upgrade.Any suggestions

I have good lenses that go down to f/2.8 but i work in areas that are not allowed flash photography, although i do have good flash equipment. Just wanting to know what would be a good upgrade as the 450d has a lot of digital noise at a high ISO reducing the quality of the image in the process

People are asking what lenses you own because if they are ef-s lenses, you should forget the 6d unless you have a lot of funds.

The problem i am addressing is when the 450d is set at an ISO 1600 ,the amount of digital noise in the image goes through the roof. Working in low light environments enables me to use high ISO settings and i cant use flash in my field of work.Working with lower shutter speeds and wider apertures may allow so much light into the cameras sensor as you may well know, but all i am wanting to know is what a good step up would be.Dont get me wrong,i love my 450d as i have taken some amazing pics throughout the years, but i have out grown it and want to move on to better things.
Lightroom and Cs3 are good for post-processing work, but it's the photographer and the camera that takes the picture and that is what i am looking for.
I think i might go for the 650d or 7d,no one has helped in this forum in anyway, just writing the usual 'it's not the camera, its the photographer'.

I cant use my flash guns with the work i am doing, that is why i posted this for anyone that may be able to give some advice on a higher quality of camera. The digital noise when the 450d is set at iso1600 is pretty shocking.
All i want to know is do other cameras have that problem when set at the same settings

No Full Frame cameras give you less noise with the same settings and same EF lens at iso 1600.
The 70D may be marginally better than your 450D at the same settings, because it is still a smaller sensor.
