70d MIS FOCUSING SOLVED???

Hi..

I encountered focusing problems with my 70d purchased a month ago, inconsistent focusing in low light (incandescent lighting) from f4 to a narrower apperture. With my eagerness to find a solution I made some adjustment on the MFA and didnt give me good results yet until I dug on the menu and found the settings on the lens drive (C.Fn II: Autofocus/ Lens drive when AF impossible). At default, it is set to continue focus search, and I made it STOP FOCUS SEARCH. I took some snap shots inside our room and it improved a lot on sharpness and low light performance...

My question is, do you think I got the right solution? Or am I having the wrong impression onthis issue? I know I can be able to answer that on my own but I still need your point of view on it... tnx

Im not sure about it too but the camera info states that when set to stop focus search, it will prevent extreme mis focus, the reason why I changed it...

Me too.

I think there's an expectation of extremely amazing low light performance that's just not present no matter how new the camera body is. Even my 2.8 and 1.8 lenses have trouble focussing in lower light, and even worse in false incandescent lighting. Also Focus is achieved before the aperture is closed during exposure. The AF system needs light too and a good contrasting edge to take a reading.

My advice would be to have a really really good read through the manual to find out what those settings do and then when to use them. Changing settings willy nilly on a camera is just asking for problems, especially with the AF system.
