Hi there,

I recently received the Canon 70d for Christmas paired with Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 lens. I am now looking for a lens that will allow me to shoot larger groups of people, and if possible some landscape work. Any other lens that anyone would suggest would be great also. Thank you!

24mm f/2.8 IS if you like a fixed focal length, or 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS if you want the broader range of a do-it-all zoom

Assuming you want to go with zooms, there are a number of ways to skin this cat...

a) Ultra inexpensive: Canon EF-S 18-55 STM

b) Inexpensive: Canon EF-S 18-135 STM for the range, EF-S 15-85 is also a proven lens

Both categories at the long end are F5.6 which I consider a deal-breaker for a lens upgrade.

c) Moderately expensive: Third party 17-5x, 17-7x f2.8. The constant f2.8 is worth the money. Typically better optics than the previous categories. Also consider the EF 24-105 f4 for a better range, at a loss of 1 stop (and some complains about optical quality at one end).

d) Expensive: Canon EF-S 17-55 f2.8. Some people consider it L quality

e) Bloody expensive: Canon EF 24-70 f2.8 L MkII. Practically every time I come home I marvel at the photos taken with this lens! If it had IS and go out for a dinner and a movie, it would be the perfect companion... :D

...and then there are primes...;)

Sorry, I don't have any... yet!
