They had some nice lilies the other day, so I decided to get a couple bunches for my wife. And since they were in the house I thought I might as well photograph them.

Thanks for looking

Well done. Flowers always look great against a black background!

Speaking of which... Steve what are you using for the background? Anytime I try to use something black, the flash turns it some shade of gray.

Thanks Cerett. I agree that flowers photograph really well against a black background.

I use a very inexpensive throw blanket that is somewhat zebra stripped on one side, and solid black on the other. Maybe 1/2" nap on the black side. Then I just dial the 580 back to 1/32 to 1/64 power. . .this one however was shot with available light and no fill.

Huh. I'm fresh out of zebra/black blankets, but thanks for the info on the power settings. :D

Yeah zebra blankets are a real **** to find. . .this one was bought as a joke from a truck stop, but it turned out to be a great find for flower photography. :^))

Word. Maybe my wife has a black dress I can use... when she's at work, of course. I'd like to try some hummingbird shots with a black background.

I'd stay away from that little black dress. . .or at least I would. You've got a couple of truck stops on the north side of I-15, I would probably check there before I used the black dress. This one is about 4 1/2" x 5" Moose.

Just throwing in 2 cents on the black background. I bought an old bed sheet from the op-shop for a couple of bucks. Works great.

Oh, and lovely light on the Lily too Steve. Nice work.

Very nicely done. I bought some roses for a photo shoot-I mean, for my husband once too and figured since they were in the house, I might as well photograph them. ;-)a
