This Belted Kingfisher was especially nervous yesterday, even by Kingfisher standards. She went from perch to perch dodging my lens. After a few hours I came away with 4 shots. Not my best but possibly my hardest earned.

Your experience is par for the course as far as what I go through every time I try to get shots of a King Fisher. Can never really get close. These are awesome.

Since I'm under a camo drape I don't often have much trouble with Kingfishers, if they show up. This one gave me fits though, she would not stay put so I ended up perch chasing with the camera from my set up spot. Even panning painfully slow was enough to make her chatter and fly. She must have woke up with a case of the nerves that morning.

Man those are excellent. Every time I try to sneak up on a local Kingfisher near the retention ponds where I live, they leave. They're super spooky.

Were these done with a flash? Is that how the background was blown black?

Very best,
