So Im encountering a small headache. I have been to the typical local places to get my pics developed. Problem Im having is size. None of the editing hardware in the places allows me to print the entire pic,its cropping so much of it that its spoiling the photo. For example the bridge here is having both ends of the expanse cropped (tho this particulat shot is not the best example as one end is cropped - but the other shots are almost the entire bridge).

So,where do you go? Where do you recomend? I just want a simple 8X10 of the entire pic, doesnt matter what it is - bridge, landscape, whatever.

The picture posted has an aspect ratio of 1.78, making it much wider than a 4x6 or 5x7, or 8x10, all of which will chop off the left and right edges to make it fit. To make it fit on standard paper without losing the edges, you'll have to make an 8x10 canvas in Photoshop and paste the picture into it. This will leave white space above and below. You'll then have to trim it and make a custom matte for framing. For future shots, you can shoot wider than needed, and crop it yourself to whatever print size you need. At least then you're in control of the crop instead of the printer's computer.

I have my pictures printed at Costco. To print this in an 8x10 you will have to do something like the following.

Find some online labs I'm sure they can print customs sizes for ya. Shutterfly, Mpix, etc. etc.

But he said he wanted an 8x10. He can get an 8x14.24 or a 5.62x10, but not an 8x10 from that image without cropping, matting, or squishing.

I had similar issues at first since I use a M43 camera, I ended up using Photoworks in San Francisco. They allow for other sizes but instead of forcing you to crop they will include a white border. So for M43 I got white borders on the top and bottom since it was still printed on a 2:3 format paper. Not sure if that will work for you.

Thanks bunches fellas! As I was reading I realized what I was doing wrong - the above photo would in fact be difficult to do in 8X10 (unless it were cropped to accomodate that size, but that ruins the shot) as it is. I need to do some other editing before printing. 8X14 or something along those lines is what I actually need. Maybe even 10X16? I dont mind the dark borders (upper and lower),just want the entire expanse.

Thanks for the input and insite :)

Could I also suggest that having the water flow uphill is very disconcerting? I would at least make an effort to level the horizon so that the ground was level, and the verticals vertical.

My location to take the shot dictates the angles. Im under the bridge trying to get as much of it in the frame as possible. I personally like how it looks. But,your observation has been duly noted ;)

Here's your attractive image roughly leveled.

Thank you!

Well,I must admit it does in fact look better leveled off a tad. And doing a quick comparison (scrolling up and down) I now feel encouraged to do the same with the original image. Better yet, when Im able I will go back to the bridge and pay closer attention to the horizon/water levels. My thanks to you George.
