Howdy All,

I didn't see this posted, so here ya go... http://www.lensrentals.com …150-600-telezoom-shootout (external link). Dated January 19th, 2014

He's comparing the new Tamron 150-600mm to the older Tamron 200-500mm, Sigma 50-500mm OS, and Canon 100-400 IS lenses.

Been mentioned. But yes, seems to be optimized at 400mm wide open. Probably because Tamron knew people would compare this to other 400mm lenses.

Seems like a great lens indeed especially for the price. Unbelievable!

Yes, now we need to know how it fairs at 600 stopped down. hard to compare I guess since there is no other 600mm zoom out there. But how it compares stopped down to f8 agains all the above would be nice as they too need stopping down.

Directly quoted from the article!

"Roger showed the Tamron 150-600 is sharper than the Canon 70-200 f/2.8"

:D

Think new Canon lenses are overpriced? Lots (and lots) of data will set you free!

 ^ A little out of context.

So don’t take today’s numbers, compare them to one of our previous tests, and say something dumb like “Roger showed the Tamron 150-600 is sharper than the Canon 70-200 f/2.8″. Different tests mean different data ranges.

Exactly. Leave the comparisons to those lenses that were included in the test. The value of such tests is to compare zooms of similar ranges.....not with zooms of dissimilar ranges or with any prime.

It worked for me, but some will just skim through the posts, then run around proclaiming, "Holy crap! The 150-600 is sharper than the 70-200 f/2.8! I saw it on the internet!!!"

interesting comparison. no surprise the 100-400 has the highest resolution at 200 and 400mm but extrapolating to 600mm ....

Someone was asking 1K for my beloved 100-400L...and I will keep it. 150-600 will be a better replacement of old Nikon 80-400

Heya,

I tire of these kinds of tests.

I'd rather see a skilled photographer take the lens(es) and go do a real world shoot with each one, the scenario, like birding/wild life (since these are telephoto) and see how they perform and how the images look. And then hear their opinion on how the lens(es) perform wide open, versus stopped down, and how fast and accurate autofocus is on moving objects (birds in flight for example), etc, and at what shutter speeds and ISO's they were able to track/pan with and without the IS/VC/OS if applicable.

Very best,
