Hi folks, am looking to buy a wide angle zoom lenses for my 550d. Am looking in the seconhand market as money is a major factor. Want the lense for landscape and architecture. What do you think is the best lense for me.

How wide do you want to go and what do you currently have? (you can add a 'gear list' in signature line setup) I really LVE my UWA 10-20mm sigma, others have canon's 10-22. Both can be found used on here.

Heya,

Depends how wide you want to go.

10-22mm is a go-to choice on a crop.

Sigma has a 10-20mm too.

The beauty of landscape/arch, is that you don't need wide aperture, you'll be stopping down to F8~F11 almost always, and commonly using manual focus.

Very best,

Personal favorite is the 10-22; the Tokina 11-16 and the above mentioned Sigma are also frequent favorites.

For landscape/architecture, I'd take the 10-22; if you expect to try to do much with astro photography (Milky Way, etc), the 11-16 would probably be a better choice for its wider (and constant) aperture.

^This.

You can get a Tokina 11-16 f2.8 if you NEED 2.8, but it is a VERY limited range, really just a pseudo-prime lens.
Less expensive wide options: Tokina 12-24, Tokina 12-28, Sigma 10-22

There is the Sigma 8-16 if you don't mind loosing the capability to put filters in front of it...( you can, but the system is hideously expensive). Here 's a sample at 16 mm:

Click on the image and then twice in the magnifying glass icon and you get to a full resolution photo.

Take a look through the lens sample threads, if you are happy with what people are doing with them then go for it. If you are on a very tight budget though the Sigma or version 1 of the Tokina 11-16 are what I would get.
