I am looking into a new computer and have been researching for some time now.

I have never built a PC from the ground up but do have experience installing memory, sound and graphics cards, fans.

I am looking for some input on the items i have selected and about the process of building/ difficulty.

I have the Adobe CC photography subscription, shoot in RAW. I do most of my editing in Lightroom 5. My flickr link is in my signature so you guys can see what I do editing wise.

Possible Build- All prices are from microcenter.com (i have a local store in my area)

Processor- i7 4770 $250
Motherboard-Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD3H $160
Memory- Crucial Ballistic Sport 16gb $140
SSD- Samsung 840 Evo 250gb $180
2nd Drive- Seagate 2tb $95
Power Supply- Corsiar cx 600 watt $65
Case- Corsair 200r $60
OS- Windows 8.1 $100

Total is $1050
I am open to changes. Any suggestions would be helpful. Mostly I am not sure about the motherboard. I just want something that will be nice and stable and wont break the bank. Would like to keep this around $1000

Pretty Solid. Wouldn't change much. Personal preference, I would go Intel 530 SSD 240GB.

I will look that up. Its selling for $10 more then the samsung i had listed at Microcenter

I should also add this machine will also run AutoCad when my wifes PC finally dies. I would think with the specs i have it will run that with ease too.

Does your wife do a lot of 3D work with AutoCad? I use Solidworks every day (used to use AutoCad but made the switch and will never go back). I tend to find that with a lot of 3d design work a machine geared at gaming works great. At least as a base point when talking with people that have no idea about 3D computer drafting. If she is doing basic 2d drawings then any machine above a basic best buy tower will do just fine.

Good question. She is a civil engineer. I know AutoCad but not sure what other programs and if they are 2d or 3d. I do know the PC she is using now has nowhere near the power of the machine I am building. She is currently using an HP Workstation that is about 6 year old.

When I was doing civil work it was all 2D, but that may have changed in the last 7 years.

Looks pretty solid to me. I alternately love/hate living so close to a Microcenter... :D
