After taking a long exposure shot, my 650d takes about 5 minutes to transfer it to the card this cant be correct is it .

Check to see if you have "long exposure noise reduction" turned on. If so, the camera will take a second shot (although black) for the same duration as your first shot, then subtract the noise from your first shot using the noise pattern of the "black" shot.

So, a two minute shot will be followed by a second two minute shot before it "returns" the camera to your control.

If you're using Long Exposure Noise Reduction, the camera takes a "black frame" with the same exposure as your long exposure was in order to filter out hot or dead pixels.
