I'm sorry, but I think this is absurd. As was said, it involved a corner of the image with little news importance. Had I, as a reader of the story illustrated with this image, learned of the manipulation, I would have yawned and said, "nice shot." For the photographer to have to profess feelings of shame over this... it's just sad. We seem to be all out of wisdom in the modern world and have had to replace it with these sort of "Zero Tolerance" rules & regulations.
