Took my new-to-me 5DII out to the local state park to snap a few pictures. My girlfriend kindly volunteered to be the subject.

These are my favorites of the bunch:

Had a friend snap a shot of the two of us as well:

#2 the winner for me; cute shot and nice lighting. In number 1, the camera angle - looking down - doesn't work for me. But ya' know, I saw a video on YouTube that said a slight downward angle gives a more flattering look to some photographs, so..?.. idk.

These are great Eric! I'm also a fan of the second one!

number one would have benefitted from a longer lens...

Great shots, #1 would be much better with a different crop, #2 is nicely done.

Thanks for the replies! I appreciate the feedback and do think the first shot would look better with a longer lens, tighter crop, and/or shot at a different angle. The second shot was my favorite of the group as well.

I went with a 1/2 CTO gel on my Speedlite, and think it worked pretty well with the natural sunlight.

Just wondering are you a very tall guy or you are shooting down on purposely on #1 and #2?

I agree that #2 is the winner. I've always found that shots like #1 look more interesting if the camera is high, looking down on the model. If you don't have a ladder (and I don't usually carry a ladder to the park!), then try focusing, and then holding the camera high above your head before tripping the shutter.

First shot would benefit greatly from a shallower depth of field .To much distraction going on there . Second shot is right on .

I'm not that much taller than she is. We may have been standing on somewhat of an incline. The pictures were taken at Oak Mtn State Park, though I've been to Chewacla numerous times before.

These are all very nice but #2 is awesome!! Did you use a fill flash or reflector? The lighting is so spot on I would like to know how you got it so nice!

Lighting is all is great on #2, but I honestly think that what makes this one work so well is the pose and the grin on her face. Having her playing with the grass just made it a casual scene and there was nothing forced about it.
