I can't find specs as to whether this new sensor is 16 bit or not. Comparing to CCD equipped Phase backs (P45+ in my case), the color-fidelity and acutance just isn't there.

I don't shoot MF. With that out of the way...

Thanks. But I still don't get it. With this kind of money tied up in equipment, won't most shooting be done in controlled-lighting/studio situations? If the entire purpose of MF is IQ, what is the point of putting up with deteriorating noise characteristics at > 200 ISO. The shots posted in the article could have been shot on a tripod-mounted XSi with a kit lens. My guess is that would provide a less noisy raw file. Noise kills detail which lowers IQ. If you are not chasing IQ, why are you shooting MF? MF at 6400 escapes me.

EDIT: OOPS! I quoted the wrong post. I meant to quote the 'higher than ISO 1600' post.
I just read Kolor-Pikker's post above mine. More information there.

Edited EDIT: I'll bow out, now. This kind of stuff is way out of my league. I had to stretch to the max to get a 6D. I am in uncharted waters here.

So exactly what does this camera do that a 1Dx or a D800 cant... please enlighten me

1 HR exposure....
50 MP
Sharper Files
Better DR
1600 TRUE SHUTTER sync....
Tethering with NO BUFFER oh and Color Management within Capture One is much better with a MF back.

That's all I can think of now.

Those posted files are very clean. If any of you have seen a 400 ISO MF or more file you will understand how good these are. I can see being on location and wanting to balance ambient with lights in an action shoot so using higher ISO to achieve that. Though as stated above most people using with system will have the $20K in lights to make higher ISO in most situations useless. Although I have a good light kit and still have a decent high ISO camera. It is there if you need it. My car may go 160mph but I usually don't go above 80mph...

I've no attachment to the 1DX or D800; if this beats them then I'd really love to see some full res files that prove it. I want to be wowed, but these just don't do it for me (says the boy looking at the emperor's new cloths). I'm just a rank amateur but to me, they look a little OOF and no less noisy than a top FF would produce.

That will help you a bit that their 4-5 year old camera IQ160... 600% try that with a 1D won't happen. I am sure more real tests will appear over next few months. For people to compare and dork out on camera systems.

Thanks! That did the trick.

I wonder what the actual cost of production for the digital back is, as opposed to the retail price.

At $10k (roughly the launch price of the Pentax 645D) they'd probably sell ten times as many as they would at $35k, and probably steal a few SLR users as well. But it all depends whether the production cost is 5k or 15k...

right, you're not ready for the big boy $35,000 cameras.
But once you get one then your photography gets to the outer limits - Playboy model shoots, NFL contracts, etc.
