Hi,

I'm trying to find a way to make my new Canon EOS 6D register lens correction data for my lens, which is Tamron SP 24-70 F/2.8.

I have Canon Utility v. 2.13.40.0 installed, but only Canon lenses appear in the interface. Does anybody know, if it's possible to transfer correction data for third party lenses to the 6D camera - and if so, how?

Hope somebody knows the solution to this problem.

Thanx

The solution is to buy Canon lenses. Correction data creation requires intimate knowledge of the design of the lens. Canon has that for their own lenses, so only those are supported.

Think about it, if you were in the shoes of the Canon people and making decisions about fully supporting 3rd party lenses, would you tend to make it easy, difficult or even impossible? "Fully" meaning every single possible interactive function between lens and camera.

No in all seriousness, I use LR4 and it's got built-in correction data for my Tokina 12-24.

Hi, Anders

Off course, this would solve the problem. But I would like to use other brands as well, and this particular Tamron lens just get the job done. Have some Canon lenses as well, though.

I have now found out that the in camera function og lens correction only corrects jpg-files and not raw-files. I didn't know that. This makes it more or less useless to me.

In Raw (Photoshop 6.0) you can find the correction data for all kinds of lenses, including this lens from Tamron. I'll just do the correction here instead.

But thanks for your suggestion anyway. :)

Bergy

And I have have Photoshop 6 with a raw plugin, that has the data build in as well. I will just do the editing in here, in stead. Just thought it would be nice to get the correction made automatically when shooting the picture. Since it only supports jpg, it is of no interest to me.

Well, you are right. But I refuse to get pushed around by Canon and have them decide what lens to buy. Many other great lenses out there, and this one from Tamron certainly is one of them - with great value for the money. It isn't cheap, mind you

And Canon, in turn, refuses to be pushed around by you to do something they're not obligated to do and would make them a willing participant in competing with their own lens sales. :D:D

Shoot RAW, correct in post.

Please note that I also own 3rd part lenses, which I enjoy very much.

As mentioned, I'm really not interested in the build in correction feature after all, as it does not apply to raw files. I follow your suggestion and do the editing in raw instead. In case you wonder, I like Canon products very much :-) They make wonderfull lenses and cameras :-)

Canon states the following about PIC. As people have said it does not affect RAW, but if it did then would it be keeping with the concept of RAW. Not really, since RAW essentially the image as seen by the sensor. I do shoot RAW, with a mix of Canon and Sigma lenses and have to say that doing the correction for the Canon lenses with a clickmor two is a convenience. To say you won't use PIC because you shoot RAW seems at odds with the fact that virtually all our final output is JPG or a similar format.

The Peripheral Illumination Correction function has no effect on image data when the cameras are set for RAW, sRAW1 or sRAW2 recording modes, but the P.I.C. algorithm can be applied to these images during post-processing in compatible versions of DPP, together with additional image improvements including chromatic aberration correction and distortion control.
