Canon 40D Burst Rate in AI Servo

Hi all,
I have got a new 40D and just have a query. When I am on MF, everything is fine, as it is with One Shot or AI Focus. But when I use AI Servo, the burst rate drops by about half to around 3fps. Is this a fault or is this normal?
Thanks in advance
Harry

40D has two 'continuous' modes. Make sure you have the high-speed one selected.

From page 81 of the manual:

What mode are you in? M, Av, Tv, etc.
One-shot, AI-Focus and AI-Servo are FOCUS modes, they have nothing to do with frame rate.

Does the 40D have "high-ISO noise reduction"? If that is ON, it slows down my 60D considerably.

I am on AV. I don't understand how it's the case but the others are fine.

I have been experimenting a little more. When I removed the battery grip it worked as normal, then put the grip back in was slow again. Guessing the grip is just faulty??

Sometimes grips have two batteries, one of which in your case might be weak. If your grip uses two batteries, try each in the body and see if you detect a difference.

Well, the hi-speed and low-speed modes have been ruled out.

So LightRules still rules.

Are you using BBAF? Does it do that if you STAY focused on the same spot? And just to confirm, you do get 6.5 fps in One-Shot mode, and it slows when going to AI-Servo without changing anything else? That is odd, indeed!

Thanks, I did that but both batteries worked fine and gave the full burst rate!

Sorry I'm not sure what BBAF is? Yes I do I one shot, and also with just a single battery, or when just using MF. Just with the battery pack, AI SERVO reduces the burst rate!!
