Hey All,

Can I use High Speed Sync on the 6D with speed lights? I believe the 6D maximum speed sync is 1/180? Does this mean I will get the black bar on the frame if I go 1/200 and up?

The 6D supports HSS flash control with compatible flash units. I just verified this with my 6D/YN568II. 1/800 s - no problem.

HSS is what you use to avoid the BLACK BAR. You can use HSS at 1/4000 if you want. I think the max range will be something like 5 feet at ISO 800, though.

like others have said using HSS avoids the black bar but some manual flashes (or an ETTL flash with manual triggers) can go beyond the camera's sync speed and not show a black bar

As others have said, the max power of the flash gets weaker, the faster the shutter speed in HSS mode, but at speeds up to about 500, it's generally not an issue.

Also, realize that the flash does not act much like a flash in HSS mode; IOW, it does not flash on the frame for as little as 100 microseconds as it does in normal sync mode; rather, it strobes as the shutter passes a slit over the sensor at about 1/180s, so it only adds light to the scene, but it does not freeze motion more than the ambient part of the exposure does.

HSS needs to be enabled on both the camera and on the flash. Have you checked the menus of both?

The thing is that with a flash directly on the camera it works perfectly but whenever i put a transmitter to a flash, in this case the Neweer Q3 the “Flash Function Settings” doesn’t work!! And doesn’t allow me to activate the high speed sync.

So you just pointed out the gremlin....the on-camera transmitter must have software version that does not properly work with the camera's eTTL support of HSS

It rather seems it doesn't work at all, no matter what you want to do.
You can use a transmitter on the camera, and still set the system up using the menu system on the camera. But it does of course have to be a transmitter that's compatible with the camera's function. Like Canon's own ST-E3-RT, for example.
