Pelican protection?

I've got a 1514 Pelican Carryon, and I use it for three bodies and five lenses. It's got the pre-cut padded partitions. I've added two layers of Temba Messenger Wraps under all the gear, and stuffed the open spaces that would allow any movement of the gear with other Tenba wraps. Nothing moves!

I arrived at a location recently with one lens and one body that were not focusing. Even though I tried my best, the bag got jostled a bit on the way to the shoot. I wonder if the lenses were out of wack before I left, or whether something happened because of the jostling of the Pelican case.

Any experiences?

Could you have packed things too securely, so there wasn't any room for the padding to compress and absorb the shock of an impact?

I don't think so, I just filled the open spaces that allowed for movement, the padding wasn't compressed.

I can't think of how it would have happened in that case, I think perhaps something happened before the trip.

My Pelican has survived the rigours of international air travel on many occasions, I never went to any extra effort to protect the gear aside from using the supplied dividers. I'd say your damage was pre-existing.
