Rode mic set up

This is the first time i am going to use a external microphone. I got myself a Rode videomic to my 70D. how do you set this up to the camera? do i need to do a manual set up from my 70D?


6D,70D, 24-70 f/2.8 L, 70-200 f/2.8 L, 100 macro L, Tokina 11-16 f2.8, 50 f/1.8,Konova slider, 430EXii ,GoPro3 Black,Dji Phantom quad Helicopter.

I am by no means a pro but I just used mine for the first time last night and all i did was plug it in my 5D mark 2. I actually forgot to turn it on for the last video I took and I know that once plugged in it overrides the internal mic because there was no sound at all for that last video. It is a huge improvement over the built in.
