This is the first time i am going to use a external microphone. I got myself a Rode videomic to my 70D. how do you set this up to the camera? do i need to do a manual set up from my 70D?

I actually forgot to turn it on for the last video I took and I know that once plugged in it overrides the internal mic because there was no sound at all for that last video. It is a huge improvement over the built in.
