Can anyone recommend a somewhat affordable bag that just fits my 60D with a single, attached standard zoom like the 15-85 or a 17-55 with room for a filter or two and a spare battery? I'd like the bag to be the smallest possible while still fitting the above mentioned gear. I have a bag that fits the camera with 2-3 lenses, but I want more of a compact walk-around bag.

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

I find it best to buy non photo bags at discount stores like Tuesday Morning
and then buy a photo insert from BH.
I have a larger Pathfinder bag and F2 Domke insert.
Much larger than you request
but you can do smaller and have more control at 20 cents on the photo store price.

Every time I buy a bag that just "barely" fits the gear I want, I end up regretting it.

The most reliable way is to take your gear to a store and see if it fits into a bag you like. This at least gives you an idea of the volume you need.

Not really inexpensive but I really like the Thinktank Digital holster for this type of setup. I use mine a lot.

I think lowpro makes a cheaper version but I have never tried it.

for something that small, I prefer a hip type holster bag. I have two bags that can house that gear, Lowepro EX160 (shoulder with belt loops) and photorunner 100 (removable shoulder with belt straps). Prefer the photorunner when possible as it's a slimmer profile.

This. If you just want a body with a mounted lens the holster bags are great. I'm agnostic about brands, have enjoyed a couple of lowe pros that I've picked up at thrift shops. Just get one with sufficient depth for the largest lens you intend to use.

LowePro Toploader series are good for body plus one lens, with an outside pocket for filters, battery, card etc. You won't fit any more than that. Probably the 50 for your kit.

Cheers, Damien
