Guys im a bit bored and never saw a thread like this. Might be interesting too see how much among you are professionals and how much enthusiasts.

Off course you can tell about what photography means to you:

Im an enthusiast and love to learn things. Theres always something to learn and since im getting no money for my hobby it makes me so much proud coming home with at least one shot which shows what i wanted to tell with it. Every picture should tell a story IMO

Hobbyist now but a retired pro. BTW: hobby shooting is more fun that pro shooting. I can shoot anything I like in any way I like! No worry about customers;)

Hobbyist here. If I did it full time to make a living, I wouldn't spend my off hours on this forum. Instead I'd be playing golf.

I am a hobbyist, BUT, I got into photography for work. I needed high quality images to show our work, and the problem is that I don't have job access all the time and it is sometimes unexpected so hiring a professional would have been not an option. Plus I figured I can do this. I learned I needed a DSLR and a different lens than kit (wide angle), then I had to learn how to use them and how to process them. Somewhere in that process I discovered that I really love photography.

So basically, I take very amateur photos of very professional marble and stone work:D

Here are some really old ones from my rebel and 10-20 days. I can find all kinds of flaws in them now, but even with some technical flaws, these were a big deal to me at the time because the work I put into photography at that point was finally enough to see results. Finally enough to separate your company from another company with what clients perceive as high quality images that translates to high quality work. Thankfully, clients are less picky than canon forumers regarding how nice a pic is:lol: So in a way, I guess I have made a bit of money indirectly with photography

Hobbyist her.;)
But I wouldn't mind to do it as part-time job but can't really as I have no idea about the business aspect of photography.
I only know how to take pictures

How I got into photography?
My sister was planing her wedding, and as wedding rates are about $2,000 on average, I realized that it would be better if we used that money to buy a DSLR and I would learn all the skills necessary until her wedding and be her photographer. In the end I will know a new skill and we will have a good DSLR, win win for everyone.
Of course I had decent amount of free time then to do it and also a big interest in photography, so it was an easy decision.
Needless to say I was her wedding photographer and I believe I did a decent job :)

Heya,

I use a 650D. Therefore, I'm a hobbyist.

Very best,

Reminds me of the "is owning a rebel a joke" thread.

Nothing wrong in using a rebel, i guess even as pro

So by that logic, because I own a 5DIII, I'm a pro? :)

Hobbyist for sure. I don't like shooting for other people as they always try to find a way to weasel out of paying.

Heya,

I'm being ultra sarcastic, above.

Instead, I think a thread that just has a bunch of images submitted by users (but not revealed who submitted what), without metadata showing how it was done and with what. Then run a poll asking which ones people think are "pro" photos and which ones are "hobbyist" photos. Then reveal it. And watch the egos both inflate and burn left and right.

Very best,
