I can use some help here. I just got the Canon 70D and a YN-560 II Flash. My question is, when I hook the flash up to the camera in the hot shoe, should i be able to goto my flash settings in camera and use these? I thought I was gonna be able to use the camera menu.

Thanks,
Ralph

No. Thats a manual flash. The camera control menus are for ETTL capable flashes with the communication channel to interact with a compatible flash. All that flash does is fire when triggered. No auto exposure, no remote control.

Thanks all. Just another question for off camera Flash. If I get the 622's I assume I would need a different flash to use in camera menu? Would that be the YN-568 or can I use the Godox V850?

Yes. If you want an ettl capable system you would need triggers (622c) and flashes capable of ettl. The YN568 is capable, The Godox is not. Do you understand ettl? You may not want or need it. But its a lot more than using you camera menu.

I'm don't really need Ettl but I was looking for a way to use camera flash control for off camera flash. I would like to be able to change flash setting in manual w/o walking to the flash. Is the only way to do this with the Ettl type flash. I thought I would be able to do it with the YN-560 II and the 622's but I must have read it wrong.

The flashes need to communicate with the camera and its unlikely that anyone would build that capacity into a non ettl flash. If you don't want ettl you are spending a lot extra for triggers and flashes just for remote control.

You are the man Gonzo, but don't underestimate the convience and luxury of using the in camera menu to control flash power when using OCF. While I certainly use ETTL when the situation calls for it, I also use manual flash quite often. I have the 622's and yn-565ex (ETTL yes, HSS no). Having to walk over to the flash to change settings, or even worse, having to lower a stand when the flash is up higher than I can easily see (i.e. over 6ft up in the air) is a pain. Using in menu control is VERY nice in these situations. The 565ex is about 100 bucks and 622's are 65ish. IMO, worth every penny even if I never used ETTL. Just my two cents. ;)

If you want to be able to remotely control the flash power you'll need an ETTL flash to go along with the yongnuo 622c's. The yn565ex is probably the lest expensive option right now.

If it's worth it is something only you (and your finances) can justify.

The reality is if you have enough control to change the flashes settings throught the camear, then all the hardware is there to E-TTL.

Actually, I think the least-expensive option for menu control via YN-622 triggers would be the YN-468ii.
