On Sunday I was photographing an event - got both my cameras (5D3- new in August & 7D) very muddy and the Iso button stuck down and I couldn't change Iso.
I mentioned this to the (I'm sure) official photog and he said to use WD40 and put camera upside-down.
Last year, I let cameras dry and used a toothbrush to remove dried mud & then a slightly damp cloth for rest - and all was fine, but I hadn't had a button stick in before.
So I let cameras dry over night and set to the next morning.
At first 5D3 seemed fine - could change Iso etc, so carried on cleaning 7D & 16-35 Mark 2.
Decided to check 5D3 again - and was shocked to find that less was working than before - and similarly with the 7D.
Rang my local camera repair shop & took them in - to be told that all 3 items were now scrap - and that WD40 makes plastic swell and should never be anywhere near cameras!
My question really is: did he deliberately say this as he saw me as competition for sales? If so, thats despicable.
I feel such an idiot .....and I have a weeks workshop in 7 days!
