Hi All,

Can you recommend the best zoom lens to get for my Canon EOS 600D please?

Ideally I would like something in the range of 55 to 250, or a higher figure if that is recommended? Ideally the lens would have a motor, and image stabiliser etc... Ive seen a few about around the £100 mark. I am new to Photography and just learning what DSLR cameras can do, so any advice on this would be great.

Thanks

Good question, I think the zoom will be used to photograph anything really, from scenery to people. For example my dog running in the park, I could zoom in and capture her face from a distance while she runs, hopefully without distortion. I think I'm after an all round performing zoom lens if there is such a thing. With a motor and image stabiliser etc... Sorry can't be more specific, as I'm new to it all. Thanks.

By "motor", do you mean autofocus?

I think so, by motor I mean autofocus.... someone who knows a lot about cameras told me it's best to have one with a motor, so save manually moving / focusing.. or something :)

Is a higher number better, i.e., 200 or 250?
Thanks

Yes a higher number will help you get right in close for your dog face pictures. I suggest the canon 200-400.

there are so many variables to consider that there is no best. Some will say the 70-200 2.8 isII is the best, but what if you need more reach? Then you say the 150-600 is the best but now you need low light shooting, etc, etc, etc.

The better question is : I have X amount of dollars to spend what sort of zoom lens can I get in that range?

I am going to guess that you are new to photograhy and dont want to spend a lot of money. Then I suggess the Canon 55-250 IS. Best bang for you buck with good image quality.

With the OP's budget, he can afford a pair of those.

Think new Canon lenses are overpriced? Lots (and lots) of data will set you free!

I would hope to pick one up for around £200 at the most, one that is user friendly for an amateur :)

if money is really tight you can get the 75-300 but prepare to buy band aids and asparin from bashing your head against the wall at how crappy the photos will be.

You are probably looking at the Canon EF-S 55-250mm IS then. It's a good lens, a natural extension to the 18-55mm kit lens.

Can you recommend the best zoom lens

around the £100 mark.

Heya,

Did you mean to say that you're looking for the best zoom in this price range? Or the best zoom?

The current best zoom is probably the EF 70-200 F2.8L II. And it's significantly more expensive than £100. As in, add another zero. And double the number.

The 55-250 STM is a good lens for you and your budget.

Also, stop even thinking of spending money. Learn photography first. You don't seem to even know what focal length is, or does, let alone what it means to have autofocus versus manual focus. Full stop right there. Go get a basic photography book. Read it.

Very best,
