According to DOF Calculator: FF at 14mm, f/5.6, Subject distance 4 ft
Near Focus Limit is 1.96 ft
Far Focus Limit is Infinity
Hyperfocal Distance is 3.842 ft
Your math is spot on!

I just focus about 6-8ft in front of me using live view at 10x and then I'm good to go. Hand held really isn't a problem. Parked at the Sci-Fi Dine-In One thing I noticed right away however is that infinity on my lens comes before the infinity mark. If I go all the way to the infinity mark the image gets soft again. So if you're shooting wide open don't trust the distance scale. VanillaImaging.com

One thing that I noticed was the infinity was properly marked on the red-ring version and didn't need to be changed like the yellow one. It's nice to have a hard-stop at infinity for night shooting as I don't really like having to 10x focus in pitch-black. Rick - Sony A7R (RIP 6D), Samyang 14, Zeiss 21/35/50, Canon 70-200L

Not sure if any of the other lenses will end up in my bag but the wide end I don't need auto focus at all.Awesome. I had the 8mm but sold it when I got my 6D, I didn't like having to crop all my images, even though the IQ was still excellent. The 85mm is one of my favorite lenses, don't let the MF scare you! With an EG-S screen it's really easy to focus even wide open, I have numerous examples on my flickr, but haven't gotten around to tagging them so it'd be hard for you to know which one's they are since most of my shots have no EXIF for the lens (I shoot a lot of MF glass). Just go take a look through the 85mm sample thread, it was better enough for me to send back the EF 85/1.8 and order a second Samyang (the first had a sticky aperture). I'm actually looking for a buyer for my EF 35/2 right now so I can order the Samyang 1.4. The 35/2 is a great lens, I just don't need AF and the Bower version of the Samyang goes regularly for $330, almost an even trade if I can sell my 35/2 and I'll get an even nicer lens ![]() I have the EGS screen installed. I perfer the viewfinder look it has. My main captures are running around kids. the 8/14 will be my toys. It's a seldom used lens in my bag but love the "Memory" i get from the images as it captures everything. I hear you. I didn't read your signature before, looks like you've got the other FL's I was talking about covered pretty darn well anyway Fuji X-T3 // Fuji X-Pro2 (Full Spectrum) // Fuji X-H1 // Fuji X-T1

Yes... sort of (I'd say most don't need adjustment, but there are definitely a lot of people who say their's do), but it's very easy to fix. You peel back the rubber on the focus ring and turn a screw to adjust it, it's very simple. Fuji X-T3 // Fuji X-Pro2 (Full Spectrum) // Fuji X-H1 // Fuji X-T1
