Yes as contemptible as the starlings of "Undesirables I" can be, I think the first place ribbon for "unwantedness" has to go to the lowly house sparrow simply because the starling usually doesn't tend to congregate around our feeders while a flock of house sparrows can clean them out in short order and be back for more as soon as you refill them, never leaving or being too far away.

Yet at the same time they also present photographic opportunities. I truthfully can't say much for the male as he is extremely hard to make look good under any conditions. About all you can say is I got a sharp well composed picture of a not very pleasant looking subject. However, the little female can warm your heart if caught in the right light and in the right pose.

a tough little guy under any circumstances

but now it just doesn't get any sweeter than this

Great captures Mike.

It is funny that the undesirables so far are imports. They are both have large numbers and are aggressive birds.

Very nice. Which lense were you using? Natural light?

Like you, the flippin' sparrows are always flocking my feeders and half the seeds end up on the ground. If the feeder contained a mix that included cracked corn, all you see after it's empty is a whole bunch of cracked corn on the ground, lol. I no longer use the feeders anymore as I am now just using a flat open platform with a dead branch screwed on for the birds to perch on.

While the sparrows still flock to the platform, they now have cardinals, blue jays, juncos, starlings, and doves fighting them off, lol. The starlings around here tend to be characters and mostly flock to the eavestroughs, using them as a bird bath, even in pouring rain. Lot of fun watching them try to pick up the peanuts with their longish beak.
