Gear Acquisition Syndrome, over the last couple of months. Mostly bodies, here's what I have now and a brief description:

6D: This is my best camera, not going to get rid of it at this time.

SL1: Picked it up a bit on a whim because I got a very good deal on it, was thinking it could be my wife's camera but she's hardly used it (more on that below). Is not seeing much action, but at the same time when I do take it out I love using it.

EOS M/ 22mm: No plans on building out the system, been using it as basically a fixed lens 35mm-equiv camera. This one does seem the most redundant, but also not sure if I'd get much if I sell it, also it has been my primary camera the last 2 vacations I"ve taken. It's a great travel camera for me, but otherwise doesn't get much use now. My wife is also not a big fan of this camera although she loves the S110 (below).

S110: Picked it up during the Xmas sales. Been the most surprising, IQ has been better than expected, and it's fun to shoot with. My wife actually loves this camera, she loves the size and the Canon handling that she's used to. She usually leaves the DSLR (even the SL1 I got for her) at home now and takes this. It's also my only truly pocketable camera. I took it to Vegas recently and most of the time it was in my jeans pocket. Also was "cheap" enough that if I break it I won't be heartbroken, so I end up taking it a lot of places worry-free.

Sony RX100: This has been my latest pickup. It produces noticeably better IQ than the S110, and almost on par with the EOS M imo. Great DR on RAW files, basically on par with the APS-C cameras above, really gives me a lot of leeway to correct exposure mistakes in PP. Size makes it pretty portable and fun to shoot, but it's not a true pocketable camera like the S110. The S110 I hardly notice, the RX100 is not very comfortable in the pocket for long.

So, if you've read this far, thanks. I hope at the very least it's served as a mini-review for someone considering some of these cameras. But what I'd like opinions on is how I might consolidate/ get rid of some of these cameras. What would you do? I think the EOS-M and SL1 both are candidates to go, but at the same time each one does serve a small "niche" in my photography, albeit very small ones.

6D > SL1 (crop) > (S110 or Sony) Sell the SL1 if you don't need a crop camera for your lenses.
Sell the EOS M and choose either the S110 or Sony as a backup.

I'd sell EOS M, SL1 and s110.

The RX100 alone is better than all those combined. (Well almost :p)

Heya,

Sounds like you just like to fiddle with new toys.

Get rid of the SL1. Choose to keep the EOS-M or the S110. Whatever is easiest for your wife to use. You should use your 6D anyways. Having a good dSLR and a good carry around P&S or similar is a good way to go. The EOS-M is expensive and to go beyond it's basic functions requires as much as money as your dSLR since it's all about lens swaps. I'd go with the more simple solution, like a good quality P&S. Alternatively, keep the EOS-M, because you can share lenses with it from your dSLR with the adapter. That way if you want to use something small and light but still use a lens you love, you can. Weigh those two options. Simplicity, or sharing. Sell the other two cameras. And stop buying new toys and just focus on getting good images instead.

Very best,

In your list I see no 1Dx, no MkII brothers, no f2.8 telephoto primes... not even a 5DIII for chrissakes...

What do you mean 'Severe Gas Acquisition Syndrome'?

Are you a hypochondriac or something? :p

I had GAS for about 4 years (2007 to 2011) mainly in the form of 11 Canon lenses. The only cure was (1) How can I use 11 lenses. There were some I rarely used; (2) Running out of money; (3) The 5D2 was getting too heavy; (4) Just getting older and a little wiser.

Now down to less (but not few). Getting new stuff all the time is getting old. The only thing I seem to want now is better high ISO performance. All the other stuff is irrelevant to me.

Too much stuff, not enough shooting time.

Canon T4i (2 lenses), Fuji X100s, Olympus OM-D EM-1 (3 lenses)

Just keep them unless you need the money. And maybe just take pictures with all the cool gear you have for a while? With all the extra time shooting instead of researching new gear, acquiring new gear, playing with new gear, you'll pick up heaps of invaluable info on the photographic side of photography!

;p

Well I am shooting more too, thanks to all this new gear. So I guess that's a positive.

While I don't have nearly as many toys as you I had GAS for about 10 months straight.
I had a T4i and a kit lens. I wanted to 'try' different types of photography so I began buying all kinds of lenses.
Zooms, primes, old lenses, new lenses, heavy, light, fast, slow, ultra wide angle, landscape, macro, etc.
I bought most of my lenses used and borrowed some from friends. I had 9 lenses at one point and only used 3 of them.
They taught me what I liked to shoot, subject, context, and focal lengths. They also taught me what I NEEDED in a lens.
I successful overcame GAS but developed a fast prime addition. Neither are good for my bank account :(
While I only have one camera and 4 lenses, I carry what I own and uses it when I need it.
The last step for me it deciding between the 50L and 85L and selling my 50 1.4, and EF-S zooms. :D :)

There are basically two options:

1) If you want to get divorced:

Keep the 6D and the RX100.

2) If you still love your wife:

Keep the 6D and the S110.
